Taking an AP History course for the first time??
AP Skills Foundations Program
Build the skills necessary for AP success before the school year begins.
Students preparing to enter the AP track benefit greatly from focused instruction in the core skills required for success. While many AP courses emphasize content coverage, this program concentrates on the analytical, writing, and test-taking skills assessed on both the AP History writing rubrics and the multiple-choice section of the exam. Group discounts are available for students who register together.
Meredith, an experienced AP Reader, has taught Honors Freshman History since 1999 with a consistent focus on preparing students for future AP achievement. She originally developed an intensive “writing boot camp” for her classroom students, which has since expanded to include stimulus-based multiple-choice analysis. Her students have gone on to achieve tremendous success on subsequent AP exams.
Drawing from years of classroom and AP grading experience, Meredith has organized these lessons into a structured 10-hour online program. Students will not only learn essential AP skills, but will actively apply them through guided practice and receive detailed, individualized feedback. Using a combination of Zoom and Google Drive, the program covers:
-
The targeted skills identified by the College Board as central to AP exam success
-
Strategies for approaching stimulus-based multiple-choice questions, including text-based passages, maps, charts, and visual sources
-
Short Answer Questions (SAQs)
-
The DBQ: prompt analysis, document reading, pre-writing strategies, contextualization, thesis development, effective document use, and analysis
-
The LEQ: prompt analysis, thesis development, organization, strong body paragraph construction, and analysis
-
Time management strategies for both the AP exam and the AP classroom
-
Effective study strategies
-
How to read an AP textbook efficiently and extract key information
-
How to approach the course thematically, using the College Board’s themes and key concepts rather than relying solely on chronology
The AP Skills Foundations Program may be completed one-on-one or in a small group setting. Meredith offers flexible scheduling in July and August; however, it is recommended that the 10 instructional hours be completed within a two-week period to maintain focus and momentum.
Program Investment:
-
$450 for the one-on-one program
-
$375 per student for groups of three or more registering together
Participants also receive a 10% discount* on future tutoring services.
